After finishing my studies in Portugal I had to leave my country and my family because there is so little work there, and I really wanted to gain experience working abroad. Switzerland was a dream destination for me and I was over the moon when I was accepted by Badrutt’s Palace Hotel to work as a chamber maid.

I started in Badrutt’s Palace as a chamber maid and at the beginning I didn’t find it very easy to settle in. However my hard work
and learning new languages paid off and I was promoted to Floor Supervisor. I also managed to complete a
Progresso advanced learning and now I work in the laundry as Laundry Supervisor and I am gaining more new
experiences. I am really happy to have this opportunity because I can take on more responsibility in this position and
broaden my experience.
What are your career goals?

My goal is to improve in my role every day and to lead my department to the best of my abilities.

Giuseppe Lo Vasco
Restaurant Manager IGNIV
Why did you decide to work at Badrutt’s
Palace Hotel and which was the first position
you held here?

When I graduated from hotel school in Italy my aunt recommended
I apply to the 5 star hotels in St. Moritz. Just when I had almost lost hope
of getting a job I heard from Badrutt’s Palace Hotel and they offered me
the position of Commis de Rang in Le Grand Hall.

My first job at Badrutt’ s Palace Hotel was Commis de Rang in Le Grand Hall on 17 December 2010. Later, I was promoted to Demi-Chef de Rang and then to Chef de Rang. Through the Palace network I was able to work a summer in Zurich and while there, I improved my German. Then I had the chance to become part of Andreas Caminada’s IGNIV team. The Palace enabled me to undertake further training at the Academy of Hotel Excellence and I could also gain work experience last Spring in Japan. Now I am Restaurant Manager in IGNIV and thanks to the hotel’s faith in me, I can work in summer at Schloss Schauenstein with Andreas Caminada and in winter at the Palace in St. Moritz.
What are your career goals?

My goals for the future are: continue to do what I enjoy doing. Working with a variety of people, recommending a good
wine, taking guests’ orders and processing them quickly and having an enjoyable time with guests and colleagues.

On my first day at work I was both nervous and excited, two emotions which proved very useful. Being open and alert enabled me to learn fast and learn more than I ever imagined. It very soon became clear that chamber maid work is far more than just cleaning: it is about having an eye for detail, understanding and anticipating the guests’ needs. Working for a company which offers training and promotion opportunities encouraged me to plan my future. After completing a Progresso course I am now Floor Supervisor and I have discovered a job in which I am happy and satisfied and which I enjoy doing.
What are your career goals?

My career goal is to keep developing myself and improving my language skills. I still want to gain more experience in the hotel industry and improve my guest relations skills.
